Entrance to the Marshallese Cultural Center. This website and ones like it are the door to learning more about Marshallese Culture.

As the web grows there is a multiplicity of websites providing information on the Marshall Islands. A recent casual search for the "Marshall Islands" yielded 863,000 web page matches. Listed below are our favorites. Links below are listed alphabetically.

Alele Museum in Majuro
http://www.alelemuseum.com
This site is run by the RMI-sponsored museum located at Majuro Atoll.

Bikini Atoll Website
http://www.bikiniatoll.com
This site is run by Former Marshallese Peace Corps volunteer Jack Niedenthal who lives on Majuro. It is an excellent place to begin a review of nuclear testing in the Marshalls.

The Marshall Islands, An Electronic Library
http://marshall.csu.edu.au

Without doubt the best site for many resources on the history, ethnography, and culture of the Marshall Islands. The site is run by Dirk Spenneman, a German-born Australian, who spent time in the early 1990’s as the chief archaeologist for the RMI. He brings a solid academic focus and an energetic eclecticism in maintaining this website associated with the Charles Stuart University located in Albury Australia. At this site you can find Marshallese legends, monographs on history and culture, as well as an archive of historical photographs.

Micronesian Seminars
http://www.micsem.org

Overseen by Father Fran Hezel SJ, the authoritative historian of Micronesia, this site is an interesting mix of images, history, and resources on the culture, economics, and history of Micronesia. The focus is on Micronesia rather than the Marshalls but the broader cultural and historical perspective is useful for gaining a better understanding of the Marshalls.

Yokwe Online
http://www.yokwe.net

The site for current Marshallese news and controversies. Founded and maintained by Aenet Rowa, a native of Ebeye who was raised on Majuro, the site has become the virtual community for Marshallese and friends scattered worldwide. Chat rooms, photo galleries, and links to other sites are to be found here.
